Love your cooking show, I’m glad the donations paid off. Just one thing, I need to get a chart to tell me your measurement system in cups, teaspoons etc….I’m sure I can find it on line somewhere. Keep up the good work! Can’t wait to try the pancakes, I know my husband and son will love them.

Oh dear, is it 2012 already?
I do apologize. I did want to put the story on Smashwords and I still will do so, probably in the next few days, but things have been a bit mad around here and I sort of forgot.
Thank you for reminding me. And you weren’t rambling at all, actually the reminder is much appreciated and needed. No need to be embarrassed. I’ll post in the comments, and probably on the blog too, once the story is on Smashwords.

I am very excited to read this novelette (and being a writer myself, I completely sympathize with wanting a beloved character/setting/world/point-of-view to reach audiences not for monetary gain but because that is the highest honor an author can attain, to write something that resounds with their audience, but I too will jump on the bandwagon of “wow, $0.99 is really cheap!”), buuut…

I don’t have a Kindle. And I read another comment on your blog in which you assured someone that you would be selling a pdf on Smashwords, but that was in August of 2011 and this is already 2012 and I /must read this story, I am practically salivating for this sort of sci-fi/, so what is a poor Kat to do?

I do apologize for darkening your blog’s doorstep with such an odd request (really, I’m very embarrassed to have done so, which is why I’m rambling) but, there you are. Thank you so much for reading through all this if you did, and if you didn’t, well, I don’t blame you!

Oh where to start…
The Unconsoled is a postmodern piece of crap. Think characters crossing a street and changing not only their motivations, but also their personalities five times before they reach the other side. Think places changing their interiors while a scene is taking place. Think, and here’s the real offence, page-long speeches (not dialogues) in which nothing, nada, nil, nichts is said. Reading the phonebook is more stimulating. And it’s all so *deep*. You’ll read reviews on the internet in which people try to tell you that it’s about the ravages of Alzheimer’s or that the novel is set in a virtual reality that’s slowly breaking down around the characters. Or maybe the protagonist is a time traveler, right? That would explain everything. Because a book by Kazuo Ishiguro couldn’t possibly be crap! But it is. Utter, horrible, mind-numbing, diarrhea-grade crap.
I once had an acquaintance who, upon seeing an interpretation of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet in which the characters walked over dinner plates for the entirety of the play (breaking hundreds of them), said that she hadn’t understood any of it, but she was sure it was *very* deep. That’s what this novel is.
It’s just postmodern drivel from an author who couldn’t be bothered to write a proper novel.
Sigh. A proper blog post will have to follow. Obviously I’m still traumatized.
